Since I came back to CB a few years ago a chap just along the coast in Worthing has been saying "CB is doomed" almost every day. I always thought it was a bit dramatic but am now wonering if there is some truth in it, but lot's of other things in these modern times are going downhill fast as well! ::)

The best part of CB these days are the few networks that dedicated guys like Ray (CI/CT 2290) and a few others run every week. A post on Facebook yesterday seems to be the attitude of many these days which is sad, I do fear for my Grandchilren and the world they have been dumped into.

The net is cancelled until further notice.
If you really must know I can't actually be fucked with it anymore.
It's a huge strain on my life, so I'm calling it off.
Sorry for being honest, but I can't be bothered any more. It's a pain on the ass for me to sit up a hill for 2 hours, finding someone to look after my dog and it's me doing all the fucking work anyway, so feel free for someone else to step up to the mark, but for now this is JC RM002 stepping down for the foreseeable future.
I'm too busy with amps, antennas and other shit like that to be fucked with it anymore.
That from a guy who gave up whith Ham radio some time back because it was too regimented and he

While I am in 'Grumpy old man mode', forums are old hat these days as the prefered method of sharing info etc. and after two years of flogging this dead horse I will be closing this site down down by the end of 2024. A number have joined but don't participate and others do on rare occassions, the most regular poster is Ray 2290 to whom we are grateful but one man simply doesn't keep the spider bots entertained enough to spread the word in search engines.

It's a shame, but the thing with sites like Facebook in particular... is the fact it killed many forums over the past 10-12 years. Far more people engage with it rather than old school internet forums.

I started it partly due to hearing a lot of people complaing about the toxicity on such sites.
It is mainly the older & ancient like me that dislike that aspect, but for me it's the disjointed layout and having to trawl through so much to find what I need.

I thank you for your input Mike, if a miracle happens I will of course revisit my decision so 'Watch this space'. :-\

I love the forums, much easier to find stuff like you said. I left so many groups on Facebook because it would flood my feed with stuff that I wasn't too much interested it. Forums for the win!

I'm with you both, give me forums over facebook, when I was on it for a few months I didn't like the lies and back stabbing from members in a radio group who then acted like friends on the air.

Forums are 'old hat' as you say. But people have been saying that over the last 20 years I have been using them as newer online comms methods have appeared, but more still pop up and many still keep going. Some forums are very quiet though when you compare member count to posting activity, the CT forum for example has over 5000 forum members but the post count is miniscule in comparison. Even if post counts are small, I still prefer to go to forums over most other social media platforms. Other than a little used twitter/X account, I don't use any other social media other than forums.

I hope you choose to continue with it, but if it is costing you money and / or time and you don't feel it is worth it, I am sure others here will respect your decision.

CB is not what it once was, but it's not doomed. If all forums closed I would still not open a new facebook account, but do put a call out on the triple 5 or on 10m and I'll be there.

I understand that generally less than 20% of forum members actually ever post anything, as for extendng the life of AllRadio I am still 'on the fence'.
Unlike CTDX this costs a bit as I dont like the 'Free' websites that have adverts so have never gone that root plus you don't have full control or are able to download the database to transfer to a proper host.

I will listen out for you on 10M but I think a QSO will be difficult, as for the 555 I don't go there now as I did that 40 years ago and still can't stand it. I do however go on the Southern area & south coast SSB net on 27.395 LSB.
