Hello all

Here is another episode of "Ray Reviews" The South Coast Monday Night Channel 14 PMR net held on 24-02-2025

Sponsored by IQ0 Incorporated.

or

"On this day Russia popped over the boarder and set up home in Ukraine"

The net started at about 20:30 🕣, which in the coming months will be the regular start time, and finished sometime after 23:30 🕦. If you do tune in before 8.30pm you could catch and take part in the pre-net warm up chat.

My equipment for the net is a pen and paper, a car battery 🔋 for the CRT Space U, some old coax and a home brew "Sputnik" 1/4 wave antenna up on a fibre glass pole.

The net can be found on PMR analogue channel 14 or 446.16875 MHz and is completely free of any kind of access tones, privacy tones and CTCSS/DCS tones.
This make it open to all no matter what kind of radio you have. It can be a handy or a mobile, a Baofeng, a Kenwood or even a converted Minicab radio.

My location for the night was a wet, misty, muddy cold Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex.

Now on with the list of check in's and who heard and worked who.

"Radar" Ray--CT 3466--Ashdown 🌴 Forest--East Sussex--Handed the chair when he least expected it 🥇
Neil--CT 5159--Detling Hill--Kent--1st location of the night
Graham--OM 001--Burgess Hill--West Sussex
Chris--CT 1033--Tonbridge--Kent
Toby--Tango 187--Ashdown 🌴 Forest--East Sussex--1st location of the night
Steve--KP 441--Devils Dyke--West Sussex--Working a handy
Martin--FB 228--Ashdown 🌴 Forest--East Sussex--Popped in on the home to say hello
Matt--Strood--Kent

It was about this time we had "someone" try to interfere and dead key the net. This went on for about 45 minutes and only stopped when a comment was made about recording them for a YouTube video and that on long key ups you could hear tell tale noise in the back which would give them away if they did key in and talk.

Tony--CT 4013--Brighton--East Sussex
Steve--DDB 285--Reigate Hill--Surrey--1st location of the night
Dean--CT 1829--Edenbridge--Kent
Des--Pembury--Kent--Pedestrian mobile working a handy

Steve--TC 156--Gatwick--West Sussex

Thank you to Martin for taking a detour and coming over for an eyeball.
Thank you all who called and to the 'famous' listening station. Sorry if you tried to call in and wasn't heard, please try again another night.

No Meshtastic tonight, but I'm sure it will be back soon.

That wraps up this episode of "Ray Reviews"

Hello all and welcome

Here is the 1st episode of the Mad March "Ray Reviews" the South Coast Channel 14 Monday Night Net, held on Monday 03-03-2025

or

"EXTRA EXTRA, read all about. Sad Ham G5*** scratches mic, plays tones and tries to block net, a close friend of the Sad Ham says 'he doesn't like licence operators on PMR' "

Thank you all who called in and sorry if the IQ0 blocked your signal and you wasn't heard. Please try again as we would like to get you in the log.

As you know (if you have been reading to the bottom of the previous review), we have been experimenting with Meshtastic on a Monday Night and running a node just before and while the net is running.
This has (so far) been a success with people connecting via their nodes, asking questions and chatting.

With 2 nodes set up in different area's on with the Meshtastic "scores on the doors".

Location 1 was connected to 91 nodes and made contacts from Southampton & Portsmouth to North Kent and London.

Location 2 was connected to 102 nodes with about 49% being 1 to 1 and the rest via multiple pings.
The furthest was again from Ashdown Forest to near Henbury, Dorset. Some 94 miles for a 1 to 1 contact.

Special mentions to Shawn who heard the Ashdown 🌲 Forest node , to Nick who did make contact with the net and the 46 mile contact between Dave CT 3678 and Mark "London Calling"

Here is the list, in reverse alphabetical location order, of check in's and who heard and worked who.

Tonbridge--George--TK 8--Kent
Strood--Matt--Kent
Southend on Sea--Adam--TE 032--Essex
Ore Village--Matt--DDB 49--East Sussex
Reigate Hill South--Russell--Speed Bird--Surrey--Working a handy

Bognor Regis--Nick--West Sussex--Welcome to the net 👍
Bedham--Dave--CT 3678--West Sussex
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--Dean--CT 1829--East Sussex--1st location of the night 🥇
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--Toby--Tango 187--East Sussex
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--Nigel--Camper Van Man--East Sussex--2nd location of the night
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--Paul--CT 5147--East Sussex
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--Jack--CT 5140--East Sussex--Shotgun with Paul
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--"Radar Ray"--CT 3466--East Sussex--1st location of the night
and me
Ashdown 🌲 Forest--Ray--CT 2290--East Sussex--In the chair 💺

With the logs out the way, on with the when, where and what time.

The net is held almost every Monday from 20:30 Hrs 🕣 and finishes anytime after 23:00 Hrs 🕚. It can be found on analogue channel 14 and we don't use any kind of CTCSS, DCS or privacy tones.
This makes it open all, no matter what type of radio you own.

My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex and my set up was the trusty CRT Space U and the homebrew 1/4 wave GPA up on a fibreglass pole.

The weather on the night was cold leaving a frost on the ground, and the sky was pretty much clear showing the passing of satellite's and the crescent moon 🌒.

That about wraps things up, thank you for reading this far down and if you have spotted a mistake, let me know so I can correct it.

Hello

Welcome to another Mad March episode of "Ray Reviews" the Monday Night South Coast Channel 14 PMR Net, which was held on Monday (no surprise there) 10th of March 2025

"EXTRA EXTRA, read all about it.

Sad Ham invited to Radio Corner for an eyeball, the world waits for his reply.

And in other news, Grumpy net regular tells all the he is quote "P----D off with the way the net is run" but doesn't direct his whining to the chair!"

Here is the list of check in's and who worked and or heard who.

Starting with handles/names first and then call signs in numerical order.

Camper Van Man--Nigel--Crowborough--East Sussex--1st location of the night
Camper Van Man--Nigel--Ashdown 🌳 Forest--East Sussex--2nd location of the night
Des--Pembury--Kent--Working a handy from home
Shaggy--Lewes--East Sussex--Welcome to the net 👍
Speed Bird--Reigate Hill--Surrey
Delta 31--Adam--Hastings--East Sussex
TC 156--Steve--Gatwick--West Sussex
Tango 187--Toby--Ashdown 🌳 Forest--East Sussex 🥇
DDB 285--Steve--Reigate Hill--Surrey

CT 3466--"Radar Ray"--Ashdown 🌳 Forest--East Sussex
CT 4013--Tony--Brighton--East Sussex
CT 4610--Andy--Reigate Hill--Surrey
and
CT 5147--Paul--Hartfield--East Sussex

That completes the log for the PMR net, now the Meshtastic scores on the doors.

The PMR node made contact with 71 nodes.
The furthest direct contact was about 56 miles, and the furthest pinging from node to node was 63 miles.
The shortest 1 to 1 contact was 3 car lengths.

Strangest contact was a node in the English Channel, some 72 miles away, travelling at 217 mph at a height of 31,000 ft.

Thank you if you have read down this far, he is some information about the net.

It can be found on PMR analogue channel 14 (446.16875 MHz).
We don't use any kind of tones so the net can be accessed by anyone with any kind of radio that covers PMR. All are welcome regardless of radio knowledge and if you are nervous about calling in or net etiquette, why not listen for a couple of weeks and then call in.
The net is scheduled to start at 8.30 pm 🕣 and finishes anytime after 11.00 pm 🕚. If you tune in before 8.30 pm 🕣 you can sometimes find a pre-net chat.

My location for the net was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set was a CRT Space U powered by a car battery 🔋 and the antenna was a home brew 1/4 wave which looks like a shrunk down Thunderpole 2 base antenna from back in 1987ish.

Before this episode comes to an end, the weather was cloudy, breezy with a chill in the air and 1 of the topics of conversation was about growing miniature oaks trees and if there should be called a Bonsai or not.

He was having a conversation with someone I couldn't hear so we moved channel.
It was non other than Philippe near Cherbourg Harbour, the very same that Ray mentioned was in pre-net chat a couple of weeks ago. 8) (The log above this post).

Hello all and welcome

or

"On this date in 1973, Martin Cooper made the first mobile phone call, from a handset, to his rival form another company"

My location for the net was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex, were the weather was cool with clear skies allowing 3/4 Moon 🌔 to shine down.

The net is on analogue channel 14 and doesn't use any kind of tones for privacy. This makes it open to all with what ever radio you own, a Baofeng, Icon, Retevis, Quansheng, Kenwood, well you get the idea.

My set up was the CRT Space U, powered by a car battery 🔋, and a "Stavo" made 1/4 wave "Sputnik" antenna up on a pole.

Highlight's of the net.
The first 30 minutes of the net was a mad rush, 21 stations called in keeping the chair on his toe's and the ink following on the paper.
Andy CT 1023 made 5 contacts from his sofa, which is a personnel best

Now for the Meshtastic Scores on the Doors.

Due to a firmware update, the data showed many contacts and a busy night with many pings, but sadly it only recorded 1 node!!
So the previous firmware will be reinstalled and hopefully things will be back to normal.

Thank you all who called in and not forgetting the listening stations, sorry if you tried and wasn't heard.

That about brings this "Ray Reviews"
If you have spotted any mistakes or worse think I have left you off the list, let me know.
