The net was held on Thursday 23rd of June 2022 and can be found on 27.395 USB or channel 39 USB mid-block and is scheduled to start at 20.00 or 8 o'clock UK time

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in East Sussex.

Equipment used was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amps, no power mic and about 40 watts when I whistle) and the Solarcon A99 antenna

The weather was amazing with sunshine, some clouds blue skies, a cool breeze with a hazy horizon. The temperature at the beginning of the net was 21 degrees C and when I packed up it was up to 13 degrees C after it dropping down to 10 degrees mid net.

Now on with the important list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

At number 1 was CT 4362--Chris--Reigate Town--Surrey 😃
AMC 02--Roz--Devils Dyke--West Sussex--2nd in command
CT 5588--Chris--Dunstable Downs--Bedfordshire
CT 5757--Chris--Reigate Hill--Surrey

At this point I was thinking of renaming the net "The Chris only net" 😆

Thank you all who called in and for the later stations, I'm glad you found us on 27.385 USB. We had to move due to the Italian Qso going on.

That just about brings this report to an end, but first

The Ugly. The playing of Hitler's speech's with looped Sieg Heil on T5 👎

The Bad. A tone blocking out T5 👎

The Good. Finland & Croatia finding our net and being able to pass Andy around the net 👍😃

Hello & welcome

Here is my slightly late report for the Southern Area & South Coast UK net held on the 07/07/2022

The net can be found on channel 39 USB on the FCC allocation or 27.395 MHz upper sideband
I turned the radio at about 8 o'clockish 🕗 and was hit with a load of noise, beeps, burps, farts, tones, whistles and languages I didn't understand. Which got me thinking that it was going to be a local county net.

Still the weather could lift my spirits, blue sky, bright sun 🌞, no wind.

Err. . .No

I was hot and sweaty sitting in the mobile communications vehicle.

Here is the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.
All operators are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Also thank you to Neil who after chairing the world famous AMC SSB net on Thursday popped up and spent some time with us 👍

That about sums it up for the night
No wait
There is something else to add
I was using the Anytone AT-6666 and the Solarcon A99 antenna (no amp and no power mic)

The net can be found on channel 39 USB mid-block (FCC) or 27.395 MHz USB and starts around the 8 o'clock mark or 20.00ish

My location for the night was Radio Corner Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex. Ashdown Forest or 100 Aker Wood, is the home of Winne the Pooh and friends created by A A Milne.

My set up was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic) putting out about 40 watts when I whistle and a Solarcon A99 on a 3 meter pole.

The weather was warm and breezy with some cloud in the sky, which didn't stop people coming out to take photographs.

Here the list of stations heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

FI 420--Dick--Near Cambridge--Cambridgeshire
Our friends chatting in 1 division
And me, CI 2290--Ray--Radio Corner--East Sussex

That rounds up the list of stations that called in and thank you all.

After the net had finished I had a flick around the bands and heard some faint voices so for a giggle I called out.

I was surprised to hear my callsign repeated back to me by both

2 OP 095--John--Maine--USA
9 NA 449--Wade--Prince Edward Island--Canada

and a "jammy sod" from Roz who was earwigging to what I was doing.

BEFORE I START, THE GOSSIP OF THE NET ENDING IS FALSE.

Here is my report for the net held on the 11/08/2022

If you are new and have not read any previous posts, the net is on channel 39 FCC USB or channel 39 mid-block USB or 27.395 MHz USB and is scheduled to start at 20.00 Hrs or 8 o'clock BST 🕗 or 19.00 UTC.

My location for the night was a bright Radio Corner, due to the full moon 🌕 , Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex.

The weather was hot & sticky with a cooling gentle breeze if I had both doors open on my mobile shack. The temperature at the beginning of the net was 23.5 degrees C and at the end it was down to a very comfortable 15 degrees C

My set up for the night, was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp and no power mic) and the the Solarcon A99. The power from the radio was a maximum 40 watts when i whistle into the mic.

The radio conditions for the night were as flat as a flat thing that has been rolled over by a road roller (I think you get the idea)

Welcome to my my report of the Southern Area & South Coast Net.
Net held on 18th Aug 2022
The net is held every Thursday night and is scheduled to start at 20.00 Hrs, 8 o'clock 🕗 BST or 20.00 UTC The net can be found on channel 39 USB FCC (mid-block) or 27.395MHz USB.

My location was going to be Radio Corner Ashdown Forest, but this was already being used by a licenced operator, so being true to my word and not wanting to interfere with his radio night, I left him to it and went off to seek another location. (I hope karma pays me back with a like minded gesture)

So on I went visiting car park after car park, all busy with cars and visitors, so I ended up at a location closer to home on the Kent Surrey border.

With an hour wasted finding a spot to set up, I got the Anytone AT-6666 connected to the Sirio 4000 and away I went.

Before the list, a thank you to Roz AMC 02 who acted as my 2nd in command and started the net 👍

Now on we go with the list of stations heard and or worked by the net, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Hello and welcome to my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB net held on the 01-09-2022.

The net started about 8 o'clock in the evening and was on 27.395 USB or channel 39 USB mid-block or the channel 39 USB FCC

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the County of East Sussex.

The weather on the night was rain with thunder and lightning ⛈ .
Making it interesting having a 18 foot Solarcon A99 on a 8 foot pole sticking up in the air!

My set up was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic) and the fore mentioned Solarcon.

The band conditions were MAD 😵💫 . I had 1 & 13 divisions hitting 5,6,7 on my signal meter at time and almost clear FM audio on SSB.
At one point in the night there was some whistling and beep beep beeping between 1, 13 & 26 division (what an interesting 3 way).
So with less than perfect conditions on 27.395 I reluctantly moved the net to a different frequency (channel) and we ended up on 27.025 USB. Yes who would have thought the the US super bowl channel would have been empty.

Now on with the list of stations that called in and were worked or heard by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Welcome to my report for the Southern Area & South Coast Net held on Thursday 08-08-2022.

My location was a dark and windy Ashdown Forest with rain always lurking in the background.

The net started at about 8 o'clock and is on channel 39 USB FFC or 27.395Mhz USB

My set up was the Anytone AT-6666 and a Solarcon A99, power output was an uncalibrated maximum of 40 watts on the whistle.

The band conditions caused me to suffer rising & falling white noise, continental voices and static crashes when there was lightning.

On with the list of stations that called in, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Hello all

Here is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB net held on Thursday 15/09/2022

To add a bit of spice to life, I chose to head towards Devils Dyke, which is just outside of Brighton, and upon my arrival was surprised to meet up with Dean CT 1829 who had decided to try somewhere different.
So, we had chat about the news of the day and then combined our stations.
Dean set up his CRT 9900 and little blue box and we combined that with my Solarcon up on a pole.
The first thing we heard was good old USA on the super bowl 😲

This is my list of stations heard and or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Here is my report of the Southern Area & South Coast SSB net held on Thursday 22-09-2022.

The net is held on 27.395 USB or channel 27 USB FCC and is scheduled to start at 20:00 BST or there abouts.

The weather mild and cloudy

After my trip last week, I was back at Radio Corner on Ashdown Forest with the Anytone AT-6666 and the Solarcon up on a pole.

The band conditions were noise with the normal snap, crackle, pop, beeps, voices and da da dee's. This made, what should have been easy contacts difficult at the beginning of the night.
But thanks to the near perfect prediction of Chris CT 5588 the noise did abruptly stop.

Now on with the stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast net held on Thursday 13th of October 2022.

My location was a cloudy and damp Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex.
My set up was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic) and a Solarcon A99 vertical antenna.

The channel was full of the USA booming in with South Carolina, Maine, New York state being heard and answering back to our CQ DX calls before being lost in the inevitable pile up and noise.

With so much happening on LSB, the net stayed on LSB for the rest of the night.

Now for the list of stations the called in and were heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

The net will now be on 27.395 LSB (lower sideband)

After a trial of 2 weeks, there has been a 100% approval by all, that LSB is the place to be.

Hello all and welcome

After the news about the switch to LSB, here is my report of the net held on Thursday 20-10-2022.

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set up was the Anytone At-6666 (no amp & no power mic) and the Solarcon A99.
The weather was different wherever I looked, above me and to the West clear skies, to the North and East clouds and to the South lightning in the distance. What a combination!

As with the previous week, there was the sound of the USA 'waving a hand atch ya'.

The net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock 🕗 and to my surprise did start at 8 with my first call of the night

Now on with list of stations that called and were heard and or worked by the net.

My location was Ashdown Forest 🌲 (home of Winne the Pooh) in the county of East Sussex and the set up was the Anytone AT-6666 and a Solarcon A99 on a 3-metre pole (no amp no power mic).

Due to my working hours, I got on the net after 8 o'clock 🕗 which was already underway thanks to Roz AMC 02 👍.

The weather can be summed up in 3 words, cold, dark, windy.

Now on with the list of those who called in and were heard and or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Thank you all who called in and sorry if you tried and wasn't heard.

During the night, the net was plagued by morse code.
This wasn't an attempt to sabotage the net.
It was a licensed operator getting his 27.395 mixed up with his 28.395 😂

That rounds up the report, 73 and TTFN 👋

Here is my report for the SSB net held on Thursday night 24-11-2022

The net was scheduled to start at 20:00 hrs 🕗 but we got side tracked chatting about Deans new DX Commander mast and having an eyeball with Russell AKA Speed Bird from the PMR net, who had made the effort to travel over to see us.

Hello all

Here is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast net held on Thursday 08-12-2022.

I arrived to a cold and frosty Radio Corner where the outside temperature was zero or in the minus and this was at 18:30  affraid.

Dean pulled in a bit later and we had a pre net chat and it was decided to put Deans new pole to the test. So up went the 12m Dx Commander with a Hawkins 5/8 wave wire antenna and at the other end was the CRT 9900 and a little 203 amp.

At 8 o'clock or 20:00 hrs the call went out to start the net.

Hello

Welcome to the 1st Southern Area & South Coast SSB net of the new year, held on Thursday 05/01/2023

Just to mix things up, I tried somewhere new.

I parked up on the Kent/Surrey border in a place called Scearn Bank Car Park and used my Anytone AT-6666 and a Sirio 4000 on the mobile shack.

The weather, for those interested, was cloudy with some wind.

Now on with the all important list of stations heard and or worked by the net.

Will I be back in my normal corner or trying out somewhere new for the next net?
The only way to find out is to listen in or join in.

Hello all

Welcome to my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB net held on Thursday 12-01-2023

The net can be found on channel 39 mid-block or 27.395 LSB and is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock GMT or 20:00 Hrs

The weather for all the WX followers, was, clear skies, cold and windy.
The frequency was busy with various Canadian stations Dxing to Texas and the southern states, 2 American's exchanging cooking recipes and the odd 1 division calling. This made a pleasant change to hearing the sound of white noise between overs.

Here the list of stations heard and or worked by the net

Hello all and welcome

Here is my report of the Thursday night SSB net held on the 26/01/2023

Having missed the previous weeks net due to being knocked out by Covid, I was looking forward to being back out on Ashdown Forest.

So with fully charged batteries, a flask of hot water and finishing work early, I was set up in Radio Corner before 20:00 and ready to go.

The weather was cold, cloudy with moisture in the air.

At 8 o'clock I called out, in between the many US/Canadian stations, to start the net.

First heard was. . . .

I hung up the mic after 11 o'clock, took down the Solarcon A99 and packed up the Anytone AT-6666 (not the new version).

Thank you all who called in, sorry if you tried and wasn't heard

Welcome to another Ray reviews. "Hold on stop, this is the SSB net not the Monday night PMR net, so lets start again"

Hello all

Welcome to my report for the SA & SC SSB net held on Thursday 09-02-2023.
The net can be found on channel 39 LSB on the FCC or mid-block or 27.395Mhz LSB, the net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock GMT or 20:00 Hrs UTC.

My location for the night was the top of Titsey Hill in the county of Surrey and the set up was the Solarcon A99 and the Anytone AT-6666 with no amp and no power mic.

The weather was cold and clear.

Before the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net, here is 20 second video of the interference I had to suffer all night.

CT 5588--Chris--On the bridge--Welly Garden Centre--Hertfordshire

NB 101--Dave--Edenbridge--Kent
CT 4362--Chris--Reigate Town--Surrey
and me CI 2290--Ray--Titsey Hill--Surrey--Never going there again!

Thank you all who called in and stuck with us and sorry if you tried and found the channel empty. We called it a night at 10.30 as it was become more frustrating to make any kind of contacts or be able to pass people around.

That rounds up this short and slightly disappointing report.

Until next

Hello all

Here is my report for the SA & SC SSB Net held on Thursday 16-02-2023.

After the noise fail from the previous week, I was back up on Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest in the county of East Sussex.

So braving the cold & fog, I set up the antenna with the top disappearing into the pea soup and connected it to the Anytone AT-6666.

The net, for those who may not know, can be found on channel 39 mid-block, channel 39 of the American CB allocation or 27.395 MHz using the LSB mode and starts at 20.00 Hrs or 8 o'clock GMT.

With back ground noise from the US, here is the list of stations heard and  or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless stated otherwise.

and me CI 2290--Ray--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex

Thank you all who called in and sorry if you tried and wasn't heard.
Please try again next week, coz you never know. . . .

Even with only 17 station on, the net covered 10 counties and London, and the distance between the furthest stations being approximately 195ish miles.
I think someone on the night said quality over quantity, I can't argue with that.

That rounds up the report, so until next time

The conditions on air were, to say the least, very strange. Most stations reported low signal readings but higher audio levels!!

Here is the list of crazy portable/mobile and homebase stations that called in and where heard and or worked by the net.

Hello and welcome.

This is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB net AKA The Original Thursday night net, held on 6th of April 2023.

The net can be found on channel 39 LSB on the CEPT/EURO/FFC/Mid-block, what ever you want to call it, or 27.395 MHz LSB and depending on my shift, is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock BST, 20:00 Hrs or 04:00 Korean time.

My location was Ashdown Forest (home of Winnie the Pooh and friends) in the county of East Sussex and my working conditions were the Anytone AT-6666 (no power mic, no amp) and a Solarcon A99 on a pole.

The weather was wet under foot after the earlier rain, but at the start of the net there was high wispy cloud with a gentle breeze, which allowed me to see a red full moon rise in the East.

Here is the list of stations heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

But a week later the net controller drops a spanner, arcs the battery, blows a fuse and the Schottky diode in his radio  :-[  :'(

Ray, I think the motto is 'Do not be tightening your nuts whilst playing radio!' ;D  :P

I don't know if you heard anything that evening, poor old John couldn't get control.
Wayne in Kentucky called out for him a few times but due to a number of localish breakers doing their own thing John didn't hear him! ::)

Hello all and welcome

After missing last weeks net due to a diode explosion. Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB net held on the 20th of April 2023.

The net can be found on frequency 27.395 MHz or channel 39 on the Mid-block, the US CB band or CEPT using the mode of LSB.

The net is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock PM BST, 7 o'clock PM UTC or 12:30 AM New Delhi time and my location was Ashdown Forest or 100 Aker Wood from Winne the Pooh, in the county of East Sussex, and my set up was Dean's (CT 1829) CRT SS 9900 (no amp, no power mic) connected to the Solarcon A99 just 1 1/2 meters above the ground.

The weather was windy, cloudy with rain at the beginning of the net, which dried out later as the net went on.

Now for the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

What a great turnout Ray, well done to yourself and others who managed to bring in the contacts.
Looks to me that the split between 26 div and joint 2/9 divs is about equal. 20 home wins & 20 away (Usa/Canada).  8)  ;D

Hello and welcome to all

Now the excitement of last week has almost worn off, here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB net held on Thursday 27-04-2023 or the American way 04-27-23.

The net is on channel 39/27.395 LSB and starts at 8 o'clock in the PM BST (British Summer Time) or 19:00 UTC

My location was Ashdown 🌳 Forest (home of Winnie the Pooh), in the county of East Sussex (JO00bb) and as a portable station, my working conditions were a CRT 9900 (no amp, no power mic) and a Solarcon A99 about 60 inches above the ground all powered by 2, 12 volt, car batteries

The weather on the night can be described by 3 words. Wet and raining

Here is my list of stations heard and or worked by the net, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

CT 4013--Tony--Brighton--East Sussex

CT 4169--Martin--Hastings--East Sussex
and me CI 2290--Ray--Ashdown Forest--East Sussex--In the chair 🪑 and mobile 🚗

The band conditions were very different to last week. There were low voices always in the back ground, an ignition sound that covered a number of channels and 3 German stations having a ragchew on FM

Thank you all who called in, well done to the mobile stations for braving the weather.
If you tried calling and wasn't heard please try again.

That, I think, rounds up this report.
If I have missed anything or got something wrong, let me know and I will correct my mistake.

Until next time

Hello, Hallo, Ciao, Ola and welcome

Here is my report for the 1st Southern Area and South Coast SSB net held in the month of June.
The net was held on the evening 02-06-2023 and starts at about 20:00, 🕗 8 o'clock BST or 19:00 🕖 UTC and can be found on 27.395 MHz or channel 39 FFC, CEPT or mid-block using the LSB mode.

I was set up in Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex and my working conditions were the Anytone AT-6666 set at about 30 Watts (when I give it a good "AAUUDDIIOO" into the mic), transmitting out of a Solarcon A99 antenna a massive 3 meters in the air and all powered by a couple of car batteries 🔋🪫.

The night had clear skies allowing me to see both the sun set and the 3/4 moon 🌔 and the slight haze covering the South Downs in he distance, The temperature at the start of the net was about 14 degrees C and when I packed up at around midnight it had only dropped to just below 10 degrees C.

The band conditions were noisy, loads of faint stations, tones and other propagation sounds could be heard and at one point for me, only the stations within 30 miles could be heard.

Now on with the list of stations heard and or worked by the net, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Did you say the band conditions were noisy Ray, I never noticed MUCH! :D
I was an intermittent swl'er for the first 90 minutes or so before calling in, the noise was too much for my ears to suffer early on. lol.

For those who haven't tried a ssb net I say "give it a go", even with the bad conditions I just about managed a two-way qso with LT 727--Echo Dave--Elstree--Hertfordshire from my homebase in Brighton. Those who are mobile on a high spot can do even better without skip, sporadic-e or other natural events.

Go on, you know you want to. :)

Very well done Ray for hanging on in there and having so many contacts.

Hello all and welcome

Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast Net held on Thursday 08-06-2023.
The net can be found on channel 39 FCC, Mid-block or 27.395 MHz using LSB and is scheduled to start at 19:00 UTC 🕖 or 20:00 🕗 UK time.

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest 🌳 in the County of East Sussex. Where the weather was clear and sunny, a slight hazy in the distance and a mild breeze that did get stronger at the end of the net. The temperature was 15 degrees C and the start and dropped to 10 degrees C by the time I packed up and headed home.

My working conditions were the Anytone AT-6666 set at about 30 Watts (when I give it a good "AAUUDDIIOO" into the mic), transmitting out of a Solarcon A99 antenna a massive 3 meters in the air and all powered by a couple of car batteries 🪫🔋

The band was noisy with low voices, whistles, tones, beeps and Heterodyne noise (what ever that is?)

Here is the list of stations heard and or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

The net can be found on channel 39 FCC, 39 on the mids or 27.395 MHz using the mode of LSB and is scheduled to start 20:00 UK time.

My location for the night, was not Radio Corner in Ashdown Forest 🌳. This was being used by a amateur who was doing a CW contest. After a chat about things radio, I wished him 'best 73, good luck and good DX' and drove off to Secret Corner in Ashdown Forest 🌳. This is where I set up the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic) and the Solarcon A99 all powered by a couple of car batteries.

The weather was hot and sticky so I spent most of the night sitting outside the mobile shack.

After some time on GE FM net I moved down to channel 39 and started the Southern Area and South Coast net.

Here is the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Hello & welcome

Here is my report for the SA & SC SSB Net held on the night of Thursday 22-06-2023

The net was on channel 39 of the FCC, CEPT, Mid-block or 27.395 MHz and uses the mode of LSB. It is scheduled to start at 20:00 Hrs 🕗 or as soon as the chair has set up and got on air.

I was set up in Radio Corner Ashdown🌳  Forest, in the county of East Sussex and was using the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic) pushing about 30 watts out through a Solarcon A99 mounted about 3 metres in the air and all of this is powered by a couple of car batteries.

The weather was again hot and sticky thanks to the cloud cover and there was always the possibility of a thunder storm on he horizon, luckily, it only rain and later in the night the clouds cleared and I could see a crescent moon 🌒

I called out at 8 o'clock give or take a few seconds and the net was underway.

Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the SSB net held on Thursday evening of the  06-07-2023

My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest 🌲 in the county of East Sussex, the working conditions were the Anytone AT-6666, a dodgy bit of coax and a Solarcon A99 all powered by a couple of 12 volt car batteries.

Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast SSB net, held on Thursday 03/08/23

The net is held on frequency 27.395 MHz or channel 39 FCC/CEPT/EURO/MID-BLOCK band using the LSB mode and is scheduled to start at 20:00 or 8 o'clock UK time, UTC 19:00 or 09:00 (HST) in Honolulu.

My location for the night was Radio Corner Ashdown Forest 🌳 (home of Winnie the Pooh🐻 ), in the county of East Sussex, where I was joined by Russell (Speed Bird) and later Steve (TC 156).

The weather was a mix of blue skies, clouds and rain later on.

I started the net using a Alinco DX-70 HF set, I found this a great radio as it had the filters to reduce passing electric car noise and the annoying tick that my mobile radio shack has when the engine is running and it also allowed me to do some SWL and ham band earwigging.
The downside of using the Alinco as a portable, was the drain on the batteries 🔋🪫🪫, so it was back to the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic). Both radio's were connected to the Solarcon A-99.

Here is my list of the stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net. All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the Southern Area & South Coast Net held on Thursday 10-8-2023.

The weather on this Thursday night was a mixed bag, it started out sunny with high wispy cloud and zero breeze, later in the evening it did get breezy with a bit more cloud. Which later caused all sorts of problems when the night finished as I had put the antenna up another pole section.

The weather on the night was cold with high wispy cloud allowing the 3/4 moon 🌔 to shine through.

Welcome to my report for the net held on Thursday 02-11-2023

With storm Ciaran doing her best to bring the country to a stop, and the 40 something anniversary of UKFM, I didn't expect to many to call in.
So I thought, with the skip being amazing over the previous weeks, I was going to take the opportunity to do some DXing and mix it up with the net.

I got to Radio Corner Ashdown Forest 🌴 in the county of East Sussex and set up the Anytone AT-6666 powered by a car battery 🔋 and put up the Solarcon A-99.
With the Solarcon swaying in the wind, I tuned in to channel 39 (27.395 MHz) to check the SWR and WOW, I thought my radio was broken, no 2 or 9 division booming in, no Euro skip, no UK stations, nothing, just static.

After I had checked the SWR and sent a couple diddly diddly beep after transmission tones (roger beeps) out, I called out to start the net.

Here is the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

GB 23--Paul--Gatwick--West Sussex 🥇
CT 4013--Tony--Brighton--East Sussex
TE 310--Kevin--Leigh on Sea--Essex
CT 4515--John--Brighton--East Sussex
CT 4362--Chris--Reigate Town--Surrey
TC 156--Steve--Gatwick--West Sussex
CT 700--Dave--Crawley Down--West Sussex
AL 1--Allan--Redhill--Surrey
and me CI 2290--Ray--Ashdown Forest🌴--East Sussex--in the chair 💺

Even with less stations on, it was still an enjoyable night as it gave me the rare opportunity to chat to all.

Thank you all who called in.

Catch you next time, 73

Hello Everyone

As mentioned on SSB Net Thursday 09-11-23 I was using an old President Madison AKA Mr Blue LOL.
We done some testing with an old school  Sirtel Base mic and a K40 speech processing mic , compliments of  Mr Ray CI2290 .
They both performed very well but with the K40 just taking lead on SSB & FM . I enjoyed giving
this old girl test .
He is pic of set up in the car a little bit a squeeze , running a leisure battery and a Solacron 99.
Hope you enjoy as much as I did

I would guess the kettle and frying pan are in the back?

A great mobile shack and everything placed within hands reach.
But it is missing something, BLUE LEDS FOR THE CHANNEL DISPLAY

This would put many a van shack to shame. 😉😉

Hello all and welcome

Here is my report for the net held on Thursday 16-11-2023.

My location was a dark, cold, foggy Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex.
This is were I set up my portable station of the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic) powered by a car battery or 2 🪫🔋 and the Solarcon A-99 antenna.

Surprisingly, I got set up by 19:00 🕖 and after checking the SWR and making a tea 🫖, I was shocked to hear Tony CT 4013 doing a audio check, so I answered back and surprised him, this then opened up a number of calls from people checking there audio and other bits & bobs.
This proves that just because you can only hear static, it doesn't mean nobody is out. You should call out.

So with faint USA on the super bowl and channel 38, the net started at 20:00 🕗 UK time.
In no particular order, here is the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Welcome all

Here is my report for the net held on Thursday 07-12-2023.

The Southern Aera & South Coast Net is held on channel 39 on the 'mids' or 27.395 MHz LSB, and is scheduled to start at 20:00 or 8 o'clock 🕗 UK time, sometimes it can be a bit earlier or a bit later, depending when the 'chairman' arrives.

My location for the night was Radio Corner Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex were it rained all the night.
This meant getting wet putting up and taking down the Solarcon A-99 so the Anytone AT-6666 could transmit it's 30 watts 'on the whistle' while being powered by a car battery 🔋

Hello and welcome to the last net before Christmas 🎅

Net 3 - Named Storms 0

Here is my report for the SSB net held on Thursday 21-12-2023.
🎁
My location for the night was a chilly, windy Radio Corner on Ashdown Forest 🎄 in the county of East Sussex. The only good thing about the wind, was it pushed the clouds along and allowed the moon 🌔 light to occasionally shine on Radio Corner.

The set up for the night was the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic) powered by a 12 volt car battery 🔋 and a Solarcon A-99 antenna swaying in the wind but guyed with a ratchet strap.

The Scheduled start time for the net is 8 o'clock 🕗 or 20:00 UK local time or there abouts.

Hello and welcome

Net 4 - Storms 0

Here is my report for the last net of 2023 held on Thursday 28th December 2023

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex.

Even being rocked & jolted by the high winds and drenched by the rain from storm Gerrit, that didn't deter me from setting up the Solarcon A-99 antenna and plugging in, the 12 volt battery 🪫🪫🔋 powered, Anytone AT-6666.

The net is scheduled to start at 20:00 or 8 o'clock 🕗 UK time.
Thank you to John CT 4515 who started thing off, as I turned up late due to Gerrit causing flooding, bring dead wood down from trees and spooking the deer which wanted to stay on the road.

Now for the list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net

TC 156 - Steve - Gatwick - West Sussex
and me
CI 2290 - Ray - Ashdown Forest - East Sussex - In the chair 💺

Thank you all who called in, I was expecting low numbers due to the funny time between Christmas and new year.
Sorry if you tried calling and wasn't heard, this may have been due to a station whistle and yelling audio/1234 while doing a radio check/alignment with his rusty screwdriver.

Storm Gerrit wasn't all bad, it did blow the clouds along so we saw that it was a full moon🌕

That about wraps it up for this net and this year.

73 and Happy New Year

Hello & welcome

Here is my report for the SSB net held on Thursday 11-01-2024

The Southern Area & South Coast SSB Net is on channel 39 of the 'Mid-block', the FFC/US allocation, the CEPT band or 27.395 MHz and uses the LSB (lower sideband) mode.
It is scheduled to start at 8 o'clock, 🕗 20:00 Hrs local UK time, but sometimes does start late due to work circumstances of the chairmen.

For the net, my location was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex and my working conditions were the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic), powered by a couple of 12 volt car batteries 🪫🪫 in the passenger foot well and a Solarcon A-99 mounted on a pole and drive on plate.

The weather was cold and breezy with what seemed like sleet in the air. The temperature at the beginning of the net was just above 4 degrees C and it a was colder and wetter at the end.

The band conditions were very strange on the night.
At the beginning I was in the middle, with all the stations around me not hearing each other which made it difficult to pass stations around. Then it did start to come to life midway with a bit of ground wave.

Here is my list of stations hear and or worked by the net, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the SSB net held on Thursday night 18/01/2024

My location was a clear, cold, frosty 🥶 but dry Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex.
With a clear sky, it allowed me to see the 1/2 moon 🌓 and the constellation of Orion.

My working conditions was the old battered Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic) and a Solarcon A-99 antenna, the Anytone was powered by a couple of 12 volt car batteries 🪫🔋.

The Southern Area & South Coast Net is held on channel 39 mid-block, 27.395 MHz, using the LSB mode and is scheduled to start at or about 20:00 Hrs or 8 o'clock 🕗 UK time

About 90 minutes before the net started, I could hear the USA on all the normal channels like 6, 16, 19, 20, 28, 37, 38 & 39 and thought that tonight was going to be a good one.
Alas by the time the net started, it had faded away, leaving a flat, quiet band.

Here is my list of stations that the net heard and or worked.
All stations are 26 division.

Thank you all who called, the net did start off slow, and I did think at one point that it would be over by 21:30 🕤, but people called in and kept it going until gone 23:00 🕚.
Sorry if you tried and wasn't heard, please do try again another Thursday night and maybe at another time during the night.

That wraps thing up till next time

Hello and welcome to the first Southern Area and South Coast SSB Net of February

This is my report for the net held on Thursday 01-02-2024

My location was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex.
The weather at the beginning of the night was cool, clear and still, when the net finished the temperature had dropped and the wind had picked up bringing clouds with it.

My working conditions were a early version Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic), powered by a couple of car batteries 🪫🔋 and the antenna system was a Solarcon A-99 about 3 meters in the air.

The net is held on channel 39 mid-block, FCC, CEPT or 27.395 MHz using Lower Side Band (LSB) and starts at 20:00 Hrs or 8 o'clock 🕗 PM local UK time.

Before the net started, I was lucky enough to get a bit of DXing in and made the following contacts.

2 # 522--Connecticut--New England--USA
163/26 RU 08--Rod--Brecon Beacon--Wales
2 # 127--John--South Carolina--USA
2 # 411--South Carolina--USA
2 NW 27--Philadelphia--Pennsylvania--USA

So after a bit of DXing across the pond, the net started.
Here is my list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Hello & welcome

Here is my report for the 2nd Southern Area & South Coast SSB Net held in February on Thursday 08th 2024.

My location was a wet windy and rainy Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest 🌲 in the county of East Sussex.

After getting wet putting up the the Solarcon A-99, I got into my mobile radio shack and connected it up to the battery 🔋 powered Anytone AT-6666 (no burner no power mic).
While I waited for 20:00 Hrs 🕗 or 8 o'clock to come round, I had a flick around 27 MHz and heard the 'normal' channel 19 noise, a lively super bowl, East Coast America and some of Europe.

Just before 8 o'clock I tuned into channel 39 on the mid-block or 27.395 MHz on LSB and prepared to start the net.
Here is my list of stations heard and or worked by the net, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Thank you all who called in, and to the listening station for the video short.

If you did try calling in and wasn't heard, don't give up, give it another go another Thursday night.

After the net ended, it was back out into the rain to take the antenna down, and drive home through the flooded roads, to dry out.

Thank you for reading down this far

Welcome welcome

Here is my report for the 3rd Southern Area & South Coast SSB Net held in February.

The date was Thursday 15th 2024.

The location, a secret, as Radio Corner was off limits to me.

The weather at the secret location was clear and still.

Working conditions, Anytone AT-6666 (NO amp NO power mic) powered by 2 car batteries 🔋 1 fully charged the other half charged and a Solarcon A-99 antenna

The net is held on channel 39, or 27.395 MHz on the American band using LSB, and is scheduled to start at 8 clock or 20:00 pm 🕗 UK time.

Band conditions, lots of 2 and 9 division at the start making it hard to hear the early callers but it did quieten down as the night went on.

Thank you to John CT 4015 who stepped in and started the net and has now adopted the rank of 'Net Starter, 2nd in command'

Here is my report for the 5th and last SSB net of February 2024.

This was a special net because it was held on February 29th, a date that only comes round every 4 years!

My location was a cold, rainy, wet under foot location on Ashdown 🌲 Forest (not Radio Corner) in the county of East Sussex.

The net is scheduled to start between 8.00 🕗 and 8.30 or 20:00 to 20:30 🕣 in the evening depending on when I get set and can be found on mid-block channel 39 LSB or 27.395 Mhz.

Hello and welcome

Here is my report for the LSB SSB Net held on Thursday 7th of March 2024.

The Southern Area and South Coast Net can be found channel 39 of the FCC/CEPT allocation or 27.395 MHz LSB.
It is scheduled to start between 🕗 8-8.30 pm or 20:00-20:30 Hrs 🕣. This depends on when the chair can get from home/work and set up.

My location for the night was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌳 Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set up was the Anytone AT-6666 and a Solarcon A-99 antenna. The weather in Radio Corner was cold with a clear sky, this gave my guest astronomer a wonderful view of the stars.

The band condition were to be expected with 2 & 9 division rolling in and then, later in the evening, a couple of 'BIG GUN' London stations started chatting on AM 😞. Once this all cleared, there was some strong local ground wave making it possible for Hastings to talk to Crawley. This is normally not possible.

The net was started by John CT 4515 and finished by myself Ray CI 2290 so here is our list of stations that called in and were heard and or worked by the net.

Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB Net held on Thursday 28th of March 2024.

My location was a wet ☔ and WINDY Radio Corner, Ashdown Forest 🌳 (the inspiration for A A Milne's 100 Aker Wood, the home of Winnie the Pooh and friends), in the county of East Sussex

The net is scheduled to start somewhere between 20:00-20:30 🕗-🕣, depending on the work shift of the chairs 💺🪑, and finishes when it finishes.

The band conditions where crazy with 2 and 9 division, a youtuber and Mr Blah Blah Blah  ::)

The net can be found on channel 39 LSB on the mid-block, which is 1 channel up from the American LSB calling channel.

The weather was wet, raining and very very windy.
This made putting the Solarcon A-99 up a challenging task, which, after some 15 or so minutes, I gave up and slapped the Sirio 4000 mobile antenna on the roof. Radio used was the Anytone AT-6666 (no Mic no amp).

So on with my list of stations heard and or worked by the net, all stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

Thank you to all who kept there antennas up and join the net and thank you all who called in.
Without you all, there would be no net.

Hope to get you in the log next time

Here is my report for the Southern Area and South Coast SSB Net held on Thursday 25th of April 2024

My location, as always, was Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌴 Forest in the county of East Sussex or the home of Winnie the Pooh and friends.

The net can be found on channel 39 of the FCC/CEPT band or frequency 27.395 MHz using the mode of LSB. It is scheduled to start at 20:00 Hrs 🕗 UK local time or 20.00 Hrs 🕗 UTC, but it does sometimes start late.

The weather was dry when I arrived at Radio Corner and stay dry while chatting to Toby Tango 187, but when I started to set up, yes you guessed it, it started to rain.

The band conditions were as to be expected, North & South America and loads of atmospheric noise being heard.
