Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday

Hello and welcome to the 8th anniversary report for the Southern Area & South Coast UK SSB Net, held on Thursday 28th of November 2024.

I would like to start with THANK YOU to all who have helped chair, promote and call into the net over the years.

Because without you, there would be no net.

The net is held almost every Thursday night between the hours of 8pm and 11pm UK local time, but can go on until later. It can be found on channel 39 Mid-block (FCC) or 27.395 MHz using Lower Side Band (LSB)

My location for the night was a cold Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex and the set up was a early version of the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp no power mic) powered by a old car battery, sending all of it's 30 watts out via a Solarcon A-99 antenna.

With the when and what time out the way, on with the list of check ins and who worked and or heard who.
All stations are 26 division unless otherwise stated.

It was a busy net and I passed around as many as I could.
I think I may have missed a few QSK, break break stations who were acknowledged, but not available when called back. It is a consequence of a busy net where patience is needed.
I hope most, if not all enjoyed the night and I look forward to working you all in the up coming months and on the 9th anniversary net next year.

Part 1 of a 2 part series is here

Thank you all who called in and made the night a success.

Anothr great net Ray, thank you.
I had to back out early due to the horrible audio from most operators which appears to be a problem with my radio, I am working on it with John's (CT4515) help.

I hung up the mic at 1 o'clock Friday morning and headed home.

Thank you all who called in.

It was another busy night for the chairs. We tried to pass around as many as possible so everybody got a chance to work 5 or more stations, this was made even harder by those who wanted to waffle and hold the net up even after being asked to speed things up!

Sorry if you tried to call in and wasn't heard, please give it a go another Thursday night.

Hello & welcome

Here is my report for the net held on Thursday 16-01-2025.

My location for the night was a cold, cloudy, dark deserted Radio Corner, Ashdown 🌲 Forest in the county of East Sussex. The nearest town would be Crowborough, once the home of Sir Arthur Conon Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes.

The net is scheduled to start anytime between 20:00 🕗 & 20:30 🕣 and finishes anytime after 23:00 🕚. It can be found on channel 39 (27.395 MHz) on the mid-block or American 40 and uses the Lower Sideband mode.

My operating conditions were an older version of the Anytone AT-6666 (no amp, no power mic) powered by a car battery 🔋, and a Solarcon A-99 antenna.

Before the list of check in's and who heard and worked who, a quick thank you to Steve KP 441 who started the net.

Here are some of the distances covered.
Rod RU 08 to Tom RC 402 was about 140 miles (225 km)
Ray CI 2290 to Rod RD 15 was about 168 miles (271 km)
Steve KP 441 to Rod RU 08 was about 149 miles (240 km)
Wayne WE 355 to Ray CI 2290 was about 115 miles (186 km)

Thank you all who called in and sorry if you tried and was missed.
I chose to give the distance stations priority over the locals, who can work each other every net night.

That's about it, thank you for ready and if you have spotted a mistake, or worse I have missed you off the list, let me know and I can correct it.
